Welcome to 5erFest 2011

By web guy | February 3, 2011

Back at Road America during 5er Fest 2010, Ted in T.O. suggesed to me that the Allegheny Chapter should host 5er Fest 2011 at the PVGP. I thought it was a great idea since 5er Fest fits in nicely with what we do for the PVGP. For the past several months, the Allegheny Chapter has been working to make it happen. Although our formal roll-out is about 2-3 weeks away, I wanted to invite everyone to Pittsburgh. As always, we are planning 10 days of activities for the PVGP. 5er Fest will run July 21-24th. We will get out the red carpet for anyone that show’s up in a 5 series!

The planned schedule is as follows:

Thursday, July 21st – We will start off the event with a Flat-Out Day at BeaveRun Motorsports Complex. For the past several years, we have wanted to have a track day during the Schenley Park weekend. For various logistical reasons, we could not make that happen until now. BeaveRun has agreed to offer a Flat Out Day to the BMW, Porsche, Audi and Mini Clubs. This is not a BMW HPDE but there will be classroom instruction, in-car instructors and passing only with a point-by. Thursday may also feature a late afternoon auto-x at the same venue.

Friday, July 22nd – On Friday, we will have a relaxed group driving tour through the back roads of Western Pennsylvania. Lunch will be incorporated as part of the day. More details regarding the tour and the lunch will be announced in mid-February. Friday evening will feature a happy hour reception. The Haufbrauhaus always has a large place in our plans.

Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24 – The activities in Schenley Park are the featured attraction these days. Vintage racing takes place both days and the Allegheny Chapter offers a BMW corra, an all day hospitality tent, catered lunches and great track views both days. 5er Fest participants will have the featured parking both days. We will have a show and shine with people’s choice judging. Plans for a formal concours may also be announced. We already have several locations in mind for the 5er Fest group photo.

For those unfamiliar with the PVGP, Schenley Park is the only venue in the country where vintage racing takes place on city streets. A city golf course and historical park are converted into a racetrack just about overnight. Additionally, 2,000 or more show cars line the fairways of the Park. This year, Porsche is the Maque of the Year. They are expecting a strong presence. The event works because it is for charity. The PVGP supports the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and the Allegheny Valley School. Our program helps to raise funds for these charities. We anticipate that several 2002 race cars will take part in this year’s race.

Hotel accommodations: We have made arrangements with the Radisson Inn – Greentree. The hotel is very welcoming to our Club. There will be designated parking, a wash area, and of course, a bar. The discounted rate will be $99 a night. The hotel is located about six miles from the hotel.

More information about the 5er Fest will continued to be posted as it becomes available. Registration should open about February 15th.

Do not hesitate to ask any questions. We look forward to seeing everyone at 5er Fest at the PVGP!
